Rental Gear
We rent one hundred and twenty-five sets of classical Karhu skis with the omnitrak waxless base because they work the best under a variety of conditions. Our Salomon and Karhu boots are high and sturdy for good control. They are available in children's size 8 (European size 26) to men's size 15 (European size 50). Our Exel wrapped fiberglass poles have stood the test of time. For skaters we have ten sets with Fischer skate skis, Salomon skate boots, and a stiff Exel pole. Tubbs snowshoes with the flexible bindings, are also available to rent.Our back country gear consists of wider skis with steel edges and waxless bases; higher stiffer boots; rugged bindings; and adjustable poles. This equipment is best used on the Open Slope, in the Glades, on the untracked fields and snowshoe trails, and on the steep trails on Barrett Mountain.
You will be asked to fill out a rental card, one for each family or group, and to purchase trail tickets. You will need to show your drivers license. All equipment must be used on the property unless there is written permission.
Every year we sell about one third of the gear to upgrade the condition and to try new models. On the first Saturday of December from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. we hold a Ski Swap where we sell our used equipment. Anyone may sell their own gear at the Ski Swap by paying us 15% of the sale price. We often have used gear for sale throughout the season. We also mount bindings and do small repairs.
For those of you with very small children, we rent out two pulks, which are sleds that attach, via two long rigid poles, to a belt that is worn around an adult skier's waist. A pulk carries one child seated securely in a seat belt and it has a windshield. Advanced reservations are recommended. The cost is $16 for half a day or $25 for a full day. Pulks are not recommended for babies under six months old because they need to be able to sit up on their own. Backpacks work great for small babies.
